Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to download an app?
No. There is no app to download, install, or learn. The entire 123Tax service runs through WhatsApp, which you almost certainly already have on your phone. If you can send a text message, you can use 123Tax.
How do I send my receipts?
Take a photo of the receipt with your phone camera and send it to our 123Tax WhatsApp number, just like you'd send a picture to a friend. You can add a quick note if you want (e.g. "fuel for work"), but it's not essential — we'll figure it out from the receipt.
How quickly do you process receipts?
Usually within the hour. We'll send you a confirmation message on WhatsApp once your receipt has been processed, categorised, and added to your records. During busy periods it might take a little longer, but we always aim to have it sorted same-day.
Can I check my expenses at any time?
Yes. Just send the word SUMMARY to our WhatsApp number and we'll reply with a full breakdown of your income, expenses, and net position for the current quarter. You can do this as often as you like — there's no limit.
What happens at the end of the quarter?
We send you a quarterly summary showing all your income and expenses. You review it, reply to confirm it's correct, and we file your MTD return with HMRC on your behalf. We'll also remind you well in advance of any deadlines so there are no surprises.
